Ninety Meals At McDonalds

Friday, January 23rd, 2004

From the New York Post:

Last February, Morgan Spurlock decided to become a gastronomical guinea pig. His mission: To eat three meals a day for 30 days at McDonald’s and document the impact on his health.

During those 30 days, he gained 25 pounds.

He also made a documentary, and it’s entered in the Sundance Film Festival. See his web site: Super Size Me.

A nice conversation

Friday, January 23rd, 2004

A brief intro to this conversation. My company produces industrial and building products - most of which are made from steel. We have 4 major product lines, one of which is expanded metal. We of course are North America’s leading producer of it.

We have numerous competitors, one of which I can’t name yet. But they have registered a domain just like ours without a dash in it. This domain includes our trademark. More of all that to come later…

So yesterday, the general sales manager (one step below VP of Sales) calls me up with this (I have to be vague until our attorney’s take some action):

Him: Those bastards over at ‘Competitor’s Name’ have registered our domain without the dash.

Some small talk…

Him: What dull headed person didn’t register that domain for us?

Me: Well, that happened before my time here

Him: Awh, come on, who was it?

Me: My boss.

Him: I know the attorneys are going to send them a letter, but I know this guy that did it. And next time I see him, I’m going to head-butt his ass.

Police shoot, kill man in West End

Birmingham police shot and killed a man in West End Sunday night after responding to a disorderly conduct complaint.

Though two officers responded to the 7:12 p.m. call to apartments at 1515 Madison Ave., it was unclear whether one or both fired shots.

Birmingham Police spokesman Lt. Henry Irby said a man came out of the building brandishing a long-barreled gun after officers from the West Precinct arrived.

This 10-71 (Shooting) turned into a good ol’ 10-45D (Dead) This is oh’ so close to Festville. See link above.

A intro to West End

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

I’m going to start things off with an on-going mini-series about the ol’ neighborhood and the seals I work with. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and have a great boss, but I do work in the ghetto and there are some seals I work with that desperately need their stories told.

I work near or in the West End ghetto. Probably years ago it might have been a cool place to live, but now it’s just West End a.k.a. Five Points West.

More to come about West End. For now, just the local movie theatre that probably didn’t have many shows last weekend.

This was an old grocery store. Now it’s where the is putting a new library.

Welcome to Festville

Sunday, January 18th, 2004

A big ol’ hello to our citizens of Festville. This little community somewhere betwix Wetumpka and Bethel will serve it’s citizens well. I have password protected this folder to keep nosy people out.

Many may view this as a blog. Well, technically it is, but it’s not really. I read a couple of blogs on a regular basis, and this will not be like those.

Enjoy and participate.
