Leroy Wells: Can you dig it?

Friday, January 28th, 2005

leroywells.jpg
Leroy Wells of Grand Bay, AL appeared Tuesday night on American Idol tryouts which was taped last summer in NOLA.

Some have compared Leroy to William Hung of last years show, but I think Leroy is so much more entertaining. He performed “Got Your Money” by O-D-B.

Leroy got to see his TV debut in the Mobile County Metro Jail, where he’d been since his arrest Jan. 5 on charges of second-degree assault and firing a gun into an occupied building.

According to jail records, he also is awaiting trial on drug charges and has pleaded guilty to second-degree possession of marijuana in 2004 and disorderly conduct in June 2003.

By early Wednesday evening, his release appeared imminent. Chris McNeil of Outlaw Bail Bonds said Wells’ family members had posted bail and Wells likely would be free within hours.

Patches is awesome!!!

A horse that likes to ride in a convertible and eat at McDonalds: Patches The Horse.

He also likes to watch TV (especially westerns), can get his owner a beer from the refrigerator, and even answer the telephone.

“There’s no other horse like that. Patches is one of a kind.”

FALLOUT SHELTER TIN SIGN $35.99

This brings back great memories from the ol’ college days in Livingston where some of the buildings still had the fallout shelter signs up.

By the way you can find them on Ebay much cheaper.

Never Gonna Be As Big As This Jesus

Thursday, January 13th, 2005

The Beatles can step aside thanks to the 62-foot, $250,000 Jesus statue erected by the Solid Rock Church of Monroe, Ohio. The sculpture towers over the church and nearby interstate 75, serving as a “beacon of hope and salvation.”

“We’re living in a day when a lot of people feel hopeless, but we believe that when people see him, they will understand he is the hope for the world,” said Darlene Bishop, wife of pastor Lawrence Bishop and originator of the idea.

Nearby roadside attractions include a sign for Hustler of Hollywood, one of Larry Flynt’s largest adult stores and a billboard for an adult club. When it comes to marketing, the “Super Savior” is certainly getting attention, but you have to wonder if going head to head with the tackiest of roadside distractions is the way go.

There is also some debate as to the biggest Jesus ever status as Eureka Springs, Ark. claims to have a 67-foot Jesus.
