Is this why Rich Rodriguez didn’t come to Bama?

A male baton twirler…very nicely done WVU.

West Virginia University’s feature twirlers have spun years of hard work into winning top honors, both nationally and internationally.

Ashley Oplinger, Donovan Sarr and Whitney Whittaker are all in their second season twirling with the Mountaineer Marching Band, “The Pride of West Virginia.”

Sarr, a junior psychology major at WVU, became Senior Men’s Two-Baton Champion in April 2006, when he traveled to Eindhoven, Holland, to compete on the U.S. World Team. A 2004 Mount Gilead (Ohio) High School graduate, he has also earned numerous Ohio State and Great Lakes regional titles in solo, two-baton, three-baton and rhythmic twirl.

Moreover, Sarr was the 2004 Men’s National Twirling Champion and the 2006 Men’s Collegiate Twirling Champion.

Sarr has been competing nationally for the past four years and internationally for the past year. Unlike most college twirlers who have been training for 10 or 15 years, he started twirling only five years ago when he was a sophomore in high school.

“My mother had been a majorette and taught me some things when I was younger, but being a boy twirler in a small town was unconventional,” he said.

When Sarr saw a boy from a rival school twirling at a homecoming game, he decided to try it. He immediately began working with a private coach, which meant traveling two hours every Sunday. In addition to the long drive, he practiced two to three hours every day.

Sarr is the first male twirler the WVU Band has had since 1971, the last year when the band was all-male.

No comment, but I will say that Ole Miss had a male(?) on the flag team one year and the student body had a name for him… no comment…

what the WVU press release failed to mention & what WVU officials don’t want you to know is that Donovan has had some serious run-ins with the law. he’s actually a womanizing, violent philanderer. local and campus police have had to respond to several domestic violence and disturbing the peace calls over his tenure at the school. Sarr has been in numerous barfights and is alleged to committed batteries against his various female partners, none of whom have pressed charges. he has fathered seven children by different women, the oldest of which was born when Sarr was in the eighth grade. he is currently the defendant in a paternity suit/child support action in Monongalia County Family Court. Sarr has only been charged with criminal activity once - an aggravated assault charge, which was thrown out by a Municipal Court judge because the only witness was the alleged victim, and he was unavailable due to being in a coma. the initial complaint filed by the city prosecutor alleged that the alleged victim approached Sarr and commented on his role in the WVU band. Sarr allegedly became enraged and attacked the man, removing the victim’s shoe and severely beating him with it until well after the victim had passed out. the victim remains at Ruby Memorial in a coma to this day.

Really Fats, because I heard he was the President of The Drama Club, sings tenor in the choir, and in his spare time (when he’s not practicing with his batons of course) works at Express in the local mall.
